Educational and Awareness Resources

The resources available below were co-created by teenagers diagnosed with high-functioning autism (HF-ASD) who are part of the Freddie Ford Family Foundation's Teen Group to help other students, educators, lawmakers, and community members better understand autism. The goal is to raise awareness and reduce bullying of students with autism in schools through improved awareness of autism and inclusion.  Click on an image below to access and view the resource.

Carly's Café - Experience Autism Through Carly's Eyes

This experience is viewed through the eyes of Carly Fleischmann, a 17 year old girl living with non-verbal Autism. Based on an excerpt from the book Carly's Voice: Breaking through Autism, it explores how, for someone with autism, a simple act like going for a coffee can descend into chaos.

Walking Down the Street with ASD to Help the Neuromajority Understand Sensory Overload

This video will give you an idea of what it's like to walk down a city/town street when you have autism. It will hopefully give neurotypicals a rough idea about what it's like to life with autism or an ASD, shot and edited by Craig Thompson, a person with Autism.

Temple Grandin Urges Parents and Educators to Expose Autistic Youth to a Range of Experiences

Temple Grandin has co-written a new book, "Navigating Autism," in which she argues that it's too easy to use the autism label to define a person on the spectrum. She urges exposing kids to many experiences to find and emphasize strengths rather than deficits. Jamie Wax reports.
